Wellbeing Week at Old GatesJoanna Walsh, Clinical Service Manager at Old Gates residential, nursing and nursing dementia care home, in Blackburn, set up ‘Wellbeing Week at the home’.

After a particularly difficult last year for everyone, due to the pandemic, Joanna contacted the wellness team at Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council requesting their assistance to organise a wellbeing week for everyone at the home.

The council were happy to assist Joanna in doing so and contacted Lancashire Mind to help too.

They organised a full week of wellbeing activities in the form of one-to-one sessions and group sessions, with follow up appointments available after the week if needed.

In addition to this Joanna received donations from local businesses and presents such as scented gifts, vouchers, chocolates, prosecco and even two tickets for a Blackburn Rovers Match (Donated by Blackburn Rovers Football Club), were distributed to lucky winners of a random drawer at the home.

The Wellbeing Week was a success, the sessions were well attended, and the afternoon tea served, including cakes, sweets, and chocolates, was well received!

Joanna commented, “Hopefully, people have received good advice and will continue to use this when they need to do so.”

One Colleague said, “I attended a session with the Lancashire Mind on the Friday and the person took time out to recap on the stress relief as I had missed the session earlier in the week and he gave some really good breathing tips.”
