HC-One opens new dementia care community in Milton Keynes

HC-One has expanded its specialist dementia care provision with the opening of a new 28-bed dementia care community within The Applewood care home in Milton Keynes. The launch further strengthens HC-One’s commitment to investing in enriching residential care environments to support families living with dementia.

The newly designed community has been created using evidence-based principles that reflect best practice in dementia care. Features include calming colour palettes, clear orientation cues, dedicated sensory spaces and homely communal areas that encourage connection, confidence and independence for people living with dementia.

The official opening was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony with a representative from Dementia UK, recognising the home’s commitment to delivering high-quality, person-led dementia care.

The community will support residents with:

  • Meaningful engagement: daily activities tailored to individual interests and abilities

  • Calm and familiar environments: carefully designed spaces that reduce stress and support wellbeing

  • Professional, compassionate care: with our care colleagues supported by a team of specialist Dementia Care Managers

  • Connection and belonging: opportunities for families and residents to enjoy shared moments in supportive surroundings

Ana Cormos, Home Manager, said:
“Every element of our new dementia care community has been shaped around what helps people living with dementia feel safe, understood and able to live well. We’re proud to expand our dementia offering and to welcome families into this new space.”

The new development forms part of HC-One’s wider focus on strengthening dementia care across its homes, from memory-friendly design to specialist learning programmes that support colleagues in delivering kind, person-led care.
