Celebrating our nursing colleagues at HC-One on International Nurses’ Day 2025At HC-One, we know that great care starts with great people. Across our homes in England, Scotland and Wales, our Nurses and clinical care colleagues play a vital role in helping people living in our homes to lead their best lives – with kindness, compassion and personalised support.

This International Nurses’ Day, we’re recognising the difference our nursing teams make every day – and sharing a few of the personal stories behind the care.

The theme for International Nurses’ Day 2025 is ‘Our Nurses. Our Future.’. It reminds us of the vital role Nurses play within HC-One care homes – and the importance of investing in the next generation of our nursing teams.

A team of experienced nursing professionals in every HC-One care home

Whether you’re looking for nursing or dementia care for yourself or a family member, it’s reassuring to know that nursing care homes at HC-One are all supported by skilled clinical colleagues, with access to expert training and development.

Across our family of care homes, we invest in the future of nursing in adult social care through apprenticeships, clinical development programmes and leadership pathways. The care we provide is shaped by our belief in caring with kindness – and delivered by people who embody compassion, courage, curiosity and creativity, and are counted on to care with kindness every day.

Meet some of the inspirational nursing professionals at HC-One

Lizzy – Senior Nurse and Clinical and Practice Development Specialist, Wigan, Manchester

Lizzy began her nursing career at HC-One’s Carrington Court care home in 2015. After developing her clinical skills through additional training, she became Clinical Lead, then moved into a national role supporting nurse education, apprenticeships and clinical development.

She now leads HC-One’s nursing apprenticeship programme and supports the development of future nurses across our homes.

She said: “International Nurses’ Day is a powerful reminder that our compassion, resilience and dedication truly makes a difference every single day. When we invest in the wellbeing of Nurses, we’re not just supporting individuals – we’re strengthening entire health systems and fuelling economic growth.”

Daniel, Senior Carer and Registered Nurse Degree Apprentice – Silverwood care home, Nottingham

Daniel’s journey began as a young volunteer in hospital kitchens, inspired by his parents who worked in healthcare. After joining HC-One in 2018 as a Care Assistant, he progressed through two apprenticeships and is now studying to become a Registered Nurse through HC-One’s partnership with the Open University.

He said: “Every day comes with new challenges but the smiles of those in my care remind me why I chose this path.”

Letizia (‘Tizzy’), Nurse Associate – Jack Dormand care home, Peterlee, County Durham

Letizia’s career began as a Domiciliary Care Assistant. After joining HC-One in 2018, she progressed through care roles and training programmes before starting her Nurse Associate Apprenticeship. Now a qualified Nurse Associate, she plans to go on to complete her Registered Nurse degree.

She shared: “Choosing to do an apprenticeship has helped me provide high-quality care by understanding the theory behind it.”

Priscillah, Home Manager – Drummohr care home, East Lothian, Scotland

With a nursing career that began in Zambia, Priscillah has worked in hospital and care settings across the globe. Since joining HC-One in 2022, she’s completed leadership training and now leads her home with a strong focus on person-centred, culturally aware care.
