Staff at HC-One’s Ebor Court Care Home in Nether Poppleton, York were recently touched by a beautiful and unexpected surprise when an anonymous handwritten poem was discovered in the staff room.
The poem, believed to have been written quietly and without any expectation of recognition, spoke movingly of warmth, kindness, companionship and the feeling of home that Ebor Court represents. Its heartfelt verses captured the spirit of the care home and the strong relationships shared between residents, families and staff.
What made the moment even more special was the fact that no name was attached. The poem was simply left behind, offering words of gratitude and reflection “from the heart”, a gesture that deeply moved everyone who read it.
Staff described feeling emotional, proud and humbled by the message, which beautifully reflected the values lived out every day at Ebor Court. The verses spoke of shared laughter, cherished memories and the comfort of knowing that no one feels alone, sentiments that resonated strongly across the Ebor Court community.
The poem was discovered by Home Manager Yvonne Penrose, and while the author remains anonymous, it is understood that the poem was written by a member of the Ebor Court team.
