Residents at HC-One Scotland’s Murrayfield House Care Home in Edinburgh enjoyed an unforgettable afternoon when three alpacas paid a special visit to the home’s gardens. The gentle animals quickly became the stars of the day, spreading joy, calm, and plenty of smiles among residents and colleagues alike.
Residents from the Avenue Suite gathered on the patio to make the most of the autumn sunshine while meeting the alpacas up close. The furry visitors were happy to interact, offering soft nuzzles and patient companionship, while residents enjoyed stroking their fluffy coats and learning more about them. The peaceful atmosphere created by the alpacas made for a truly heartwarming experience.
Animal visits such as this are more than just fun, they can have genuine therapeutic benefits for older people. Interacting with animals has been shown to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and encourage positive social interaction. For residents living with dementia, these visits can spark memories, stimulate conversation, and provide a comforting sense of connection.
As the home looks ahead to autumn, plans are underway for cosy seasonal activities, including Harvest Festival celebrations and events to mark the transition into the colder months.
