Residents, colleagues, friends, and families at HC-One’s Ashworth Grange Care Home in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, have come together to support the Yorkshire Air Ambulance through a continuous aluminium can collection initiative that began on 23rd September.
Since launching the effort, the Ashworth Grange community has already filled two large bin bags of tin cans, and they are showing no signs of slowing down. The initiative is set to run indefinitely, with the home encouraging members of the local community to donate their aluminium cans to help raise further funds for the life-saving charity.
The idea for the collection was inspired by Denise Newsome, a close friend of one of Ashworth Grange’s residents, 102-year-old Hilda Brice. Denise is a passionate supporter and fundraiser for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, having raised thousands of pounds over the years through a variety of challenges, including skydives and wing walks, as well as smaller but impactful efforts such as collecting aluminium cans. Though each kilo only raises between 30p and 50p, the continued effort adds up to make a real difference.
In addition to collecting cans, the home is also supporting fundraising through the sale of handmade greeting cards crafted by resident Patricia Ambler. The cards were discovered by Patricia’s daughter, Kath, while clearing her mother’s home, where she found a beautiful collection of cards created during Patricia’s years as an active fundraiser for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Members of the local community are warmly invited to join the cause by donating their clean aluminium cans directly to Ashworth Grange Care Home, helping to keep the collection growing and the support for Yorkshire Air Ambulance soaring.
