Residents and guests at HC-One Wales’s Parklands Care Home in Caerphilly, were recently transported back in time as the home recreated the legendary atmosphere of Caerphilly’s beloved 1970s cabaret venue, the Double Diamond Club.
The Double Diamond, once a vibrant hub of music and entertainment, welcomed some of the biggest names of the era, including Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, The Drifters, Gene Pitney and Cliff Richard. For many of Parklands’ residents, the club holds treasured memories of nights out with friends, meeting partners, and enjoying live music.
Inspired by these fond recollections, the Parklands team decided to bring the Double Diamond back to life within the care home. With the support of the Double Diamond Facebook community, the event featured original photos, posters and memorabilia.
The dining area was transformed with lanterns, a sparkling ceiling and authentic decorations, setting the perfect stage for a live performance. A singer performed a specially curated setlist of songs from the legendary artists who once graced the Double Diamond stage, delighting residents and guests alike.
Residents from Parklands were joined by friends from HC-One Wales’s sister care homes, Church View, Trafalgar Park and Aberpennar Court, making it a truly special gathering. The day was filled with music, laughter, dancing, and even some emotional moments as couples slow-danced and reminisced about the past.
Adding to the celebration, the event coincided with the birthday of Parklands’ Home Manager, Amy Campbell, making the day even more memorable.
