Care home hosts community fundraiser with Morrisons and Lord Mayor of ManchesterHC-One’s Brookdale View Care Home in Newton Heath, Manchester, was delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Carmine Grimshaw, for a fun-filled community fundraiser in partnership with Morrisons on Saturday, September 20, 2025.

The event, driven by Wellbeing Coordinator Dylan Marshall and Lisa Ogunba, community champion at Morrisons Failsworth, brought together colleagues, residents, families, and Morrisons staff for a day of games, laughter, and community spirit.

The Lord Mayor, who represents the Miles Platting and Newton Heath ward, joined residents in celebrating the strong community connections being built at Brookdale View Care Home. This follows a recent visit from Lucy Powell MP on August 5, further highlighting the home’s commitment to strengthening local ties.

The fundraiser was organised to raise money for a new pool table at Brookdale View Care Home, a resource that will encourage social interaction, physical activity, and wellbeing for residents. The day included a tug of war, five-a-side football, and a lively egg-and-spoon race.

There was also a hotly contested Morrisons Bake Off, with the winning entry – a chocolate orange cake – proving a firm favourite. Residents, families, and colleagues shared plenty of smiles as they joined in the games and celebrations together.

Karen Wolstenholme, HC-One’s Brookdale View Care Home Manager, praised the teamwork and enthusiasm that made the day so memorable:
“We’re so proud of Dylan, Jo, Lisa, and everyone involved. The support from Morrisons and the wider community has been incredible, and we’re thrilled that our residents could enjoy such a fantastic day with Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor of the City of Manchester by our side.”
