A care home manager in Wigan has successfully completed a gruelling 12-hour darts marathon, raising hundreds of pounds for cancer support charity Macmillan Cancer Support.
Ben Lee, Home Manager at Ash Tree House Care Home, took on the endurance challenge on Saturday 7 March at The Dog and Partridge, playing darts continuously from 12:00pm until midnight.
The fundraiser was organised in support of Macmillan’s campaign encouraging men to speak more openly about cancer. Around 250,000 men in the UK are affected by cancer each year, and the charity is working to ensure they feel able to talk about the fear, anxiety, and challenges that can come with a diagnosis.
Ben initially set out to raise £150 through the challenge. However, thanks to the generosity of supporters, he raised £156 online through his fundraising page and a further £420 in sponsorship on the day – bringing the final total to £576.
Marie Phillips, Front of House Manager at Ash Tree House Care Home, said:
“We’re incredibly proud of Ben for completing this challenge. It was a fantastic effort and a great way to bring the community together while raising awareness and vital funds for Macmillan. The support he received on the day was amazing, and it shows how much people care about supporting those affected by cancer.”
All funds raised from the darts marathon will be donated directly to Macmillan to help provide practical, emotional, and financial support to people living with cancer across the UK.
