A Stanley care home is calling on the local community to help make a resident’s 100th birthday a truly unforgettable occasion.
Kathleen Strangward, who lives at Hepworth House Care Home in Stanley, Wakefield, will celebrate her 100th birthday on 8 March, and staff are hoping to surprise her with 100 birthday cards to mark the incredible milestone.
Kathleen is a much-loved resident at the home, known for her warm nature and kind spirit. Staff say that even a simple card, note or a few thoughtful words would mean the world to her as she celebrates a century of life.

Alongside the card appeal, the team at Hepworth House is also hoping to honour Kathleen’s love of bluebells by creating a bluebell patch outside her window. The aim is to give her something beautiful to enjoy on her birthday and throughout the spring and summer months.
The care home is welcoming donations of anything that could help make the celebration extra special, including bluebell plants, garden items, decorations, birthday cards or small thoughtful gifts.

Staff say they are greatly looking forward to celebrating Kathleen’s big day on 8 March and hope the community will help them make it a birthday to remember.
