Double Century Celebrations at HC-One’s Launton Grange Care Home

HC-One’s Launton Grange Care Home in Bicester, Oxfordshire, has marked a remarkable milestone in November, celebrating not one but two centenarian birthdays. Residents Catherine “Kate” Nicholls and Barbara Marsh both reached their 100th birthdays in November, with staff, families, and the local community joining together to ensure the occasions were truly unforgettable.

Kate Nicholls celebrated her milestone on 8 November, surrounded by an impressive 27 members of her family at a glamorous private afternoon tea party hosted at Launton Grange. Following the event, Kate’s children, Moira, Angela and Peter, praised the team’s efforts, saying:

“We appreciate all the hard work and effort the staff went to, everything was just beautiful. The room was decorated in style, and the cakes were delicious! The staff have always been so thoughtful to Mum during her residency, and the party made her feel so loved and cherished.”

Later in the month, on 28 November, fellow resident Barbara Marsh enjoyed her own lively celebration, joined by family and friends for a traditional birthday party. The home prepared a generous buffet featuring many of Barbara’s favourites, including classic vol-au-vents and cheese and pineapple sticks.

During the festivities, Barbara stood to thank her guests, joking:

“Thank you all for coming here today, I appreciate you all. It has been a great afternoon, and I hope you have all had enough to eat, because we are not giving away doggy bags!”

Launton Grange also extended heartfelt thanks to the teachers and children of Glory Farm School, who created colourful and thoughtful handmade birthday cards for both centenarians. The gesture was warmly received and deeply appreciated by the residents.

Reflecting on the month’s celebrations, Annie Merry, Front of House Manager at Launton Grange, said:

“To be able to celebrate these ladies, both born in 1925, is a privilege. Few people are lucky enough to celebrate turning 100, so I was sure I wanted to make it very special for our ladies. I hope that the parties showed both ladies how loved they are by not only their families but also by us all here at Launton Grange.”

The team at HC-One’s Launton Grange are proud to have marked these extraordinary milestones and remain committed to providing uplifting experiences and meaningful moments for all residents.
