HC-One’s Sedgley Court Care Home, in Dudley, West Midlands, has celebrated the 100th birthday of resident Miriam Barber on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, marking a remarkable milestone.
The home hosted a joyous party in its beautifully decorated tearoom from 2 to 4pm, bringing together around 15 guests, including family, friends, and colleagues, to recognise Miriam’s extraordinary life. The celebration featured a delightful buffet tea prepared by Sedgley Court’s head chef, Karl Edwards, with the tearoom adorned in vibrant birthday decorations.
Miriam’s family also surprised her with a special birthday meal at a local hotel for close family members, adding an extra touch of love to the occasion. Miriam, who moved to Sedgley Court on March 23, 2024, has become a cherished member of the community.
Miriam’s daughter, Anne, and son, Howard, shared their heartfelt sentiments:
“A 100th birthday is a huge milestone, and our Mum has been blessed to reach it. As a family, we wanted to celebrate this great occasion by inviting some of the people who have visited Mum regularly over the years and since she’s been at Sedgley Court, to join with us for a very special buffet tea.
“We also planned a special birthday meal at a local hotel for close family as an extra surprise! We’re very grateful for the kindness, care, and respect shown to Mum by the staff at Sedgley Court over the last 15 months.”
Known for her warm spirit, Miriam has formed close bonds with colleagues and residents, making her milestone a shared joy for all at the home.
