Fir Trees Care Home, run by HC-One and located in Dukinfield, Tameside, Greater Manchester, welcomed visitors and guests from the local community to participate in this year’s Care Home Open Week celebrations, held from Monday 16th June until Sunday 22nd June 2025.
The highlight of the week was the Care Home Open Weekend, from Friday 20th June to Sunday 22nd June, when Fir Trees Care Home invited residents, colleagues, friends, family and neighbours to enjoy a range of community-focused events, including a vibrant garden party and afternoon tea.
Care Home Open Week, hosted by Championing Social Care, is a national initiative aimed at strengthening connections between care homes and their communities. It offers the opportunity to showcase care home services, provide guided tours, and demonstrate the engaging activities available for residents.
HC-One’s theme for 2025, ‘The Big Summer Weekender’, brought a nostalgic British summer holiday feel to the home with themed decorations and activities, creating a warm and festive atmosphere for all involved.
Throughout the week, Fir Trees Care Home hosted a variety of engaging events, including a traditional afternoon tea where residents’ friends and families were welcomed to enjoy delicious treats and refreshments. A musical afternoon was also held on Thursday 19th June, featuring local singer Shaun, who delighted residents with classic tunes. Colleagues and residents danced, sang along, and shared a joyful afternoon together.
The home was beautifully adorned with colourful summer decorations, creating the perfect backdrop for a week of community spirit, fun, and connection. The event not only brought families and friends together but also offered visitors the chance to learn about the rewarding career opportunities in care and the meaningful volunteer roles available at the home.
Nicole Gunning, HC-One’s Fir Trees Care Home Manager, said:
“Care Home Open Week is such an important opportunity for us to connect with our wonderful local community. It was fantastic to see so many residents, relatives, colleagues, and visitors enjoying the celebrations, and to be able to showcase the exceptional care and facilities we provide here at Fir Trees. We were delighted to open our doors and welcome everyone in.”
Katie Hey, Wellbeing Coordinator at HC-One’s Fir Trees, added:
“It is so lovely to see residents enjoying time with their families and colleagues all coming together to ensure our residents have a good time!”
