Ebor Court Care Home in Nether Poppleton, York, was delighted to welcome Shelby McCloud recently as part of her inspiring challenge to complete 21 jobs in three months, raising awareness and funds for charities supporting people with Down Syndrome.
Shelby, a remarkable young woman with Down Syndrome, is on a mission to redefine expectations and demonstrate what inclusion looks like in action. Through her ambitious challenge, she is stepping into different workplaces, meeting new people, learning new skills, and creating opportunities for others along the way.
Alongside her personal journey, Shelby is fundraising for three life-changing charities: Down Syndrome UK, the Down Syndrome Association, and Shine 21. Her fundraising page can be found at:

Arriving at Ebor Court Care Home marked Shelby’s first job in the challenge, working as an Activities Coordinator at Ebor Court Care Home alongside Lifestyle Manager Denise Cooper. During the morning, Shelby helped lead a range of engaging activities for residents, including Scrabble, card games, and a lively game of Shut the Box, bringing energy and smiles to everyone involved.

“Shelby was fantastic with our residents. She was so natural, jumped straight in with the activities, brought so much energy to the room and made everyone feel included. It was wonderful to see the smiles and laughter she created, our residents loved spending time with her. She should be so proud of herself.”
