This September, HC-One’s Foley Grange Care Home in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, is proud to celebrate two very special residents who are both reaching the incredible milestone of 100 years – Joan Snowdon on Monday, September 8, and Doris Simkins on Thursday, September 25, 2025.
Doris and Joan have both lived rich and meaningful lives. Doris grew up in Smethwick and later settled in Kidderminster with her late husband Kenneth.
A devoted mother to Alison and John, and a proud grandmother to Jacob, Doris dedicated many years to working at a chemist and contributing to local groups such as the Women’s Guild and the Loyal Order of the Moose.
Since moving to Foley Grange in September 2023, Doris has enjoyed regular visits from family and friends, especially Wednesdays with Margaret, the mother of her son’s wife, who brings her great joy and companionship.
Doris Simkins, Foley Grange resident, stated:
“Reaching 100 is a true blessing, and I feel so grateful for the love and support from my family and friends. I’m proud of the life I’ve lived and the wonderful community around me here at Foley Grange.”
Joan was born in Holywell, North Wales, and after a successful career as an accountant, she enjoyed many memorable holidays with her late husband Denis. She is a loving mother to her son Mark and remains close to her family, who are celebrating with her this weekend.
Joan Snowdon, Foley Grange resident, said:
“Turning 100 is a milestone I never imagined reaching. I’ve been lucky to share so many happy memories with my family, especially my son Mark. Celebrating here at Foley Grange with everyone makes this birthday even more special.”

“It is an absolute honour to celebrate not just one but two of our wonderful residents reaching the incredible milestone of 100 years. Their lives are an inspiration to us all and we feel privileged to help share their joy, stories, and wisdom.”
