HC-One’s Foley Grange Care Home, in Kidderminster, warmly welcomed residents to the inaugural meeting of its new book club, held in the home’s cosy library in celebration of National Book Lovers Day (Saturday, August 9).
The event brought residents together to share their favourite childhood books, which sparked lively conversations and nostalgic memories that highlighted the joy of reading. The debut gathering marked the beginning of a cherished tradition at HC-One’s Foley Grange Care Home – a regular book club, where residents unite over their shared love of literature.
Attendees also voted on the group’s first official read, which set the stage for future engaging discussions. The Foley Grange Book Club aims to create a vibrant community spirit, encouraging residents to explore new worlds through books while strengthening friendships and forging bonds across generations.
Rebecca Archer, HC-One’s Foley Grange Wellbeing Coordinator, reflected on the event’s success:
“It was such a joy to see everyone connecting through stories that meant so much to them. This book club is more than just reading – it’s about sharing experiences and creating new memories together.”
Resident Edward shared:
“The shopping trolley is a very good idea, it’s very helpful to many of the residents.”
