Residents at HC-One’s Kings Court Care Home in Newark recently enjoyed a lively and energising exercise session led by Mike Cheetham from Transform Gyms Middlebeck, filling the home with laughter, movement, and a wonderful sense of togetherness. Mike Cheetham from Transform Gyms Middlebeck is a regular visitor to the home visiting residents every Thursday to host an exercise class.
The activity proved to be extremely popular, with a full house of residents eager to take part. Mike guided the group through a series of safe, gentle exercises tailored to older adults and those living with dementia. These sessions are designed to promote mobility, flexibility, circulation, balance, and coordination, while also providing a fun way to stay active.
The benefits of group exercise extend far beyond the physical. Research shows that keeping active can help maintain independence for longer, reduce the risk of falls, and improve overall health. For residents living with dementia, movement activities can also help reduce restlessness, enhance mood, and provide meaningful social interaction. Many residents reported feeling more positive, relaxed, and energised after the session.
