Residents at Kirkwood Court Care Home in Kenton, Newcastle upon Tyne, enjoyed a joyful and love-filled Valentine’s Day celebration, with a week of activities designed to bring smiles, spark memories and encourage everyone to join in the fun.
The celebrations included a special Valentine’s meal, where residents were treated to a delicious menu featuring tender steak with homemade chips, as well as an alternative of hunter’s chicken wrapped in crispy bacon and served with freshly made barbecue sauce. The meal proved a big hit, with residents praising the quality and flavour of the dishes.
Entertainment was at the heart of the festivities, with Michaela from Musical Memories performing a Valentine’s-themed show filled with soothing love songs. Residents also took part in Valentine’s bingo, where friendly competition broke out as they played for love-themed prizes, including heart-shaped chocolates.
A special visit from Wilkins Dance School added a touch of elegance to the celebrations, with young dancers performing beautiful ballroom routines. Some residents even joined in on the dance floor, reminiscing about their own dancing days.
“The dancing was tremendous – it reminded me of my dancing days,” said resident Tom Jackson.
Creativity also took centre stage with Valentine’s arts and crafts, where residents painted love hearts and created festive decorations. Staff decorated the home to create a warm and romantic atmosphere, ensuring everyone felt part of the celebrations.
“All of the decorations looked beautiful. The staff put in a good effort to get the residents celebrating Valentine’s Day,” said Charlotte Lambert, Care Manager.
Kirkwood Court Care Home was delighted to see so many residents taking part in the varied activities, ensuring everyone had the opportunity to celebrate in a way that suited them. The team prides itself on creating meaningful moments and memorable experiences for residents, and this Valentine’s celebration was no exception.
