Leicester care home colleague shortlisted for National Care Awards 2025

Karen Griffiths, HC-One’s Harley Grange Care Home Head Housekeeper, has been named a finalist for the Care Housekeeper of the Year Award at the National Care Awards 2025. Karen has been part of the Harley Grange family for over 10 years, bringing dedication, warmth, and exceptional standards to her role.

As Head Housekeeper and Infection Control Champion, she leads by example, ensuring the home is always clean, safe, and welcoming. Her colleagues describe her as an inspiration who motivates the whole team to take pride in their work. Karen’s impact reaches far beyond housekeeping.

She is known for her person-centred approach, taking the time to help new residents settle in, personalising rooms with treasured belongings, and offering support to families during difficult times. She has introduced creative initiatives such as a “Room of the Month” award to celebrate excellence and inspire her team to go above and beyond.

Her commitment has been recognised in Harley Grange’s most recent inspection, which praised the home’s “clean and tidy” environment and excellent infection control standards – a reflection of Karen’s leadership and attention to detail.

Residents and families hold Karen in high regard, with many sending personal thank-you cards in recognition of her support on special occasions, such as anniversaries and birthdays. She is also a vital support to staff, known for her kindness, positivity, and willingness to lend a hand wherever needed.

Justyna Szewczyk, HC-One’s Harley Grange Care Home Manager, said:

“Karen is the heart of our home’s environment. She doesn’t just see housekeeping as a job – she sees it as caring for our residents’ homes. We are thrilled that her dedication has been recognised nationally.”
