Leighton Court Care Home Residents Take Part in Nationwide Birdwatch for Second YearResidents and staff at Leighton Court Care Home in Wallasey, Wirral, have once again joined the nationwide birdwatch, marking their second year participating in the popular citizen science initiative that helps monitor the UK’s garden birds.

Armed with bird seeds, suet, dried worms, and a selection of treats including cookies, chocolate, and tea, the residents and staff settled into the warmth of their lounge to observe the birds visiting their garden. Despite a windy morning, they spotted a variety of birds including wood pigeons and magpies, recording their findings to contribute to the UK-wide project.

The activity was met with enthusiasm from all involved, particularly residents Frank Orr and Lol Fletcher.

Sophie Teasdale, Wellbeing Coordinator at Leighton Court, said:
"This is our second year joining in with this, and it feels amazing to be part of something so big, recording our results so our lovely garden birds in the UK can be monitored. We all really got into it and look forward to doing it again next year."

Resident Lol Fletcher added:
"I've spent my whole life in nature, climbing mountains all over the world. I love it, so to still be part of something to do with nature and the environment like this is great."

Leighton Court’s participation highlights the home’s commitment to engaging residents in meaningful, outdoor-related activities, fostering connection with nature and the wider community.
