Residents at The Denby care home in Huddersfield enjoyed a lively and uplifting choir session recently after being joined by a talented local pianist who helped bring their favourite songs to life.
The Denby Choir welcomed pianist Neil Woodcock, who was recommended to the home by one of its residents. Neil accompanied the group during their regular choir gathering, playing well-loved hymns as well as surprising the group with a few unexpected additions to the setlist.
Among the highlights was a spirited rendition of Yellow Submarine, which proved an instant hit with residents.
While the choir usually performs traditional hymns such as All Things Bright and Beautiful, the new addition was warmly received by residents and staff alike and may now become a permanent feature in the choir’s repertoire.
The session was filled with laughter, singing and plenty of enthusiasm as residents enjoyed the opportunity to come together, celebrate music and reflect on the week.
Penny Duncan, Wellbeing Coordinator at The Denby, said:
“We have a really good turnout for our choir and it’s something our residents always look forward to. Neil did an amazing job accompanying us and even introduced a few surprises, which everyone loved. We’re always keen to keep things fresh and enjoyable.”
The choir is currently on the lookout for a volunteer choir tutor or music teacher who could help the group develop their singing further and introduce new techniques.
“We are looking for someone who could help us learn some new methods and help guide the choir,” Penny added. “In the meantime, we’re simply enjoying letting our hair down, singing together and having fun. Our residents are eager to learn and willing to push themselves in the name of success.”
Anyone interested in supporting The Denby Choir as a tutor or music leader is encouraged to get in touch with the home.
