Residents at Daneside Court Care Home in Northwich, Cheshire, have been getting into the Valentine’s spirit with a heart-warming day of poetry, reminiscing and romance.
The celebrations began with a creative challenge for residents, who were given the opening line “Roses are red, violets are blue…” and invited to come up with their own endings. While thinking caps needed a little warming up, once the ideas started flowing there was no stopping them, with plenty of laughter and imaginative verses shared throughout the session.
A Valentine’s display board was created to capture the day, offering a touching snapshot of love stories from years gone by right through to the present day. Residents and staff spent time poring over old black-and-white wedding photographs, guessing who was who and reminiscing about fashions of the time – including fond discussions about whether some wedding dresses were made from parachute silk.
The activity sparked many memories and conversations, giving residents the chance to reflect on their own love stories while sharing them with friends and staff.

“Valentine’s Day is such a special opportunity for our residents to reflect on their life stories and the people they have loved. Seeing everyone so engaged, laughing together and sharing memories was truly lovely. Moments like these really show the importance of creating meaningful, joyful experiences in our home.”
The Valentine’s celebrations at Daneside Court are set to continue with residents eagerly looking forward to a special Valentine’s performance from entertainer Dave Bushell. Staff are confident he will sweep the ladies off their feet with his popular show.
