Residents at HC-One’s Melbury Court Care Home in County Durham were all shook up recently as they enjoyed a week of Elvis Presley–themed celebrations, honouring the life and music of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
The celebrations began with a special cinema afternoon, where residents, family members and staff came together to watch a film about Elvis’s life. Guests enjoyed a selection of snacks as they shared memories and relaxed together during the screening.
Later in the week, residents took part in an Elvis-themed morning quiz, putting their knowledge of the legendary performer to the test. The highlight of the week followed with a fantastic live performance from Mike Memphis with The Elvis Show, which had residents singing along and thoroughly enjoying the experience.
The week was filled with fun, music and nostalgia, with many residents sharing positive feedback about the activities. Even those who said they were not usually Elvis fans commented on how much they had enjoyed the celebrations, particularly the live performance.
Sofia Foka and Amanda Sargeant, Wellbeing Coordinators at Melbury Court, said:
“It was a wonderful week and amazing to see how much our residents enjoyed themselves. The activities brought back so many memories, and the live performance from Mike Memphis was a real highlight. Even residents who told us they weren’t usually Elvis fans said how much they loved it, which was lovely to hear.”
Head Chef Lyndsey Hudson also supported the celebrations, helping to ensure residents were well looked after throughout the week.
The Elvis-themed events were part of Melbury Court’s ongoing commitment to providing meaningful, engaging activities that support residents’ wellbeing and encourage social connection.
