Residents at Melbury Court Care Home in County Durham were recently treated to a colourful and uplifting cultural celebration, thanks to a special visit from performers from Durham Chinese School and Durham University.
The talented group of students delighted residents with a vibrant showcase of traditional Chinese fan dances and ribbon performances, followed by a calming Tai Chi demonstration. The combination of movement, music and storytelling created a warm and joyful atmosphere, with many residents sharing how much they enjoyed the performance and the opportunity to experience something new.
Wellbeing Coordinators at Melbury Court said the event provided a valuable opportunity for residents to engage with different cultures while fostering meaningful intergenerational connections. After the performance, the students spent time chatting with residents, answering questions about Chinese culture, dance traditions and university life, which sparked lively conversations and curiosity among those attending.
