
Acorn Hollow and Acorn Meadow Care Homes, run by HC-One, located in Northwich, Cheshire, welcomed visitors and guests from their local community to participate in this year’s Care Home Open Week celebrations from Monday 16th June until Sunday 22nd June 2025.
The homes main celebration events took place during Care Home Open Weekend between Friday 20th June and Sunday 22nd June 2025.
Acorn Meadow Care Home welcomed residents, colleagues, friends, family and the wider community to a vibrant week of activities, residents enjoyed a range of engaging events from Monday 16th to Friday 20th June. Highlights included a relaxing pamper day, a joyful performance from the Lostock Ukulele Band, and a heartwarming visit from Northwich Hedgehog Rescue, where residents had the chance to meet and hold hedgehogs and hoglets. Antrobus Primary School Choir delighted everyone with beautiful hymns, while the home’s Open Day on Thursday was a huge success, featuring live music from Sandra Currie and Steve Jackson, local stalls, a tombola, BBQ, buffet, and treats from Donutology and a local ice cream van. The week concluded with an interactive seated sports session from Rise Seated Sports, warmly attended by MP Esther McVey, who enjoyed meeting residents and learning about their life stories.
Meanwhile at HC-One’s Acorn Hollow Care Home, they marked Care Home Open Week with a fun-filled programme of events that brought together residents, colleagues, families, and the local community. The week kicked off on Monday with a peaceful session of community bird watching, allowing everyone to enjoy nature together. Tuesday saw creativity shine through during a vibrant arts and crafts day. On Wednesday, residents experienced an exciting visit from Zoo Lab alongside a refreshing Rise exercise session. The highlight of the week came on Thursday with a lively summer fair featuring live entertainment and a delicious BBQ. The celebrations wrapped up on Friday with a friendly and competitive pool tournament. It was a fantastic week celebrating community, creativity, and connection.
Care Home Open Week is a national event hosted by Championing Social Care, designed to connect care homes with their local communities. The week will offer care homes the opportunity to showcase their range of services, provide tours of their facilities, and highlight the activities that are offered to residents.
The event is also a reminder to the homes’ neighbours that they are there if they need support. Throughout the week, residents, colleagues, families, and friends enjoyed a variety of fun-filled activities culminating in an end-of-week celebration at the home.
The event also sought to connect the homes with their neighbours, highlighting the communal support that the home can provide. HC-One’s chosen theme for this year’s Care Home Open Week was ‘The Big Summer Weekender’ emulating the nostalgic feel of British summer holidays with a variety of fun-filled activities culminating in an end-of-week celebration at the home.
On Friday 20th June, Acorn Hollow and Acorn Meadow Care Homes welcomed in Esther McVey, Member of Parliament (MP) for Tatton. The home and members of the local community came together to celebrate summertime memories, past and present, and hosted a fabulous Summer Weekender event.
Residents and colleagues of the HC-One owned care home enjoyed meeting MP Esther McVey and chatting to her about what life is like at Acorn Hollow and Acorn Meadow Care Homes – which are an integral part of the local Northwich community.
MP Esther McVey enjoyed a tour round Acorn Hollow’s 48 bedded care home, offering nursing and residential care, including the hair salon, kitchenette, hobby room, lounge, ensuite bedrooms, lounge, and landscaped garden and Acorn Meadow’s 48 bedded residential dementia care home including the hair salon, lounge, ensuite bedrooms and dining room.
Acorn Hollow and Acorn Meadow Care Homes were adorned in a variety of summer themed decorations, emulating the nostalgic feel of British summer holidays past and present provided a perfect setting for everyone to come together as a community, and to learn more about life at the care homes.
As well as providing a space for existing relatives and residents to celebrate life at the homes, visitors were encouraged to hear directly from colleagues in the homes about what a rewarding career in care looks like as well as opportunities for community engagement and about the volunteering roles on offer within the homes.
