HC-One’s Fosse Way View Care Home in Bingham, Nottingham, proudly welcomed cyclists from the Great British Care Cycle Relay on Saturday 14th June, as part of the home’s celebrations for Care Home Open Week 2025.
The Great British Care Cycle Relay, organised by Championing Social Care, is an ambitious nationwide event designed to shine a light on the incredible work of the social care sector, while also promoting healthier lifestyles and fostering community connections. This year marks the third consecutive year of the relay, with cyclists covering over 100km each day across a five-day route through various regions of the UK.
Fosse Way View Care Home was one of the scheduled stop-offs on the Nottingham leg of the relay’s 111km journey. The home provided a warm welcome, with light refreshments offered to the cyclists as they took a well-earned break and chatted with residents, colleagues, and visitors. The visit offered a fantastic opportunity to showcase the home’s outstanding facilities, compassionate care, and strong community spirit.
Liz Wood, Senior Home Manager at HC-One’s Fosse Way View Care Home, said:
“We were delighted to be part of this year’s Great British Care Cycle Relay in partnership with Championing Social Care. It was a wonderful way to mark Care Home Open Week and to strengthen our ties with the local community.
“Care Home Open Week is an invaluable opportunity to highlight the rewarding and enriching experiences available in care – not just for those who live with us, but also for those who work in and support the sector.
“We’re incredibly proud of our team and the difference they make every day, and events like these allow us to celebrate that work while engaging meaningfully with our neighbours and visitors.”
The visit from the cycling team was further supported by the Vale of Belvoir Cycling Club (VBCC), whose members joined in the relay and spent time talking with residents and colleagues. Resident at HC-One’s Fosse Way View Care Home, Brenda Young who is 101 years old has a personal connection to the VBCC as her Grandson is part of the group.
Peter Robinson, Chairman of Vale of Belvoir Cycling Club (VBCC), expressed his thanks in a message following the event, stating:
“A big thank you from all of us at the Vale of Belvoir Cycling Club for your kind hospitality. We were honoured to support the Cycle Relay and visit Fosse Way View – it was great to see the smiles and hear the stories. Special thanks also for your generous offer to support with a finger buffet for our Belvoir Butterfly Charity Cycling event (on Saturday 28th June from Cranmer Centre, Aslockton) to support Alzheimer's Society, Dementia UK and Pancreatic Cancer – we’re truly grateful.”
The Great British Care Cycle Relay began in Edinburgh on 12th June, travelling through the Scottish Borders, York, and Nottingham, before moving on to Cardiff and culminating in Brighton and London in alignment with the launch of Care Home Open Week on Monday 16th June.
