Residents from The Oakes and Greenacres Care Homes in West Yorkshire enjoyed a delightful afternoon of music, dancing and refreshments at a special dementia-friendly Tea Dance held at Huddersfield Town Hall recently.
The event was delivered in collaboration with the Kirklees Dementia Hub and the Huddersfield Mrs Sunderland 2026 Performing Arts Festival and was free for people living with dementia and their carers. It aimed to create an inclusive, joyful environment where attendees could connect through music and movement.
Guests were treated to a lively singalong performance by St John’s School Choir in Golcar, followed by tea and cake in the beautiful surroundings of Huddersfield Town Hall. Residents from both care homes took to the dance floor, sang along to familiar tunes, and enjoyed spending time together in the local community.
Maria King, Regional Admissions Co-ordinator, said:
“We had a fabulous afternoon of singing and dancing, which is always good for the soul. For those living with dementia, music and movement can unlock memories and significantly improve overall wellbeing. It was wonderful to see our residents so engaged and happy.”
