Residents and colleagues from HC-One’s River Court Care Home in Watford, Hertfordshire, enjoyed a truly memorable outing as they attended the Watford vs. Preston match at Watford Town FC’s home stadium.
The group were warmly welcomed into the club’s dedicated sensory room, a cosy, comfortable space designed to ensure guests can enjoy the excitement of a live match while staying relaxed and warm. The thoughtful accommodation made the day particularly special for River Court residents.
James Clark, River Court’s oldest resident at 99 years old, described the experience as “a well worth early Christmas gift.” His enthusiasm didn’t stop there; as the group prepared to board the minibus home, he grinned and declared, “I’m staying here!” His joy captured the spirit of the day perfectly.
Another resident, Stephen Machell, spent the afternoon reminiscing about his younger days attending Watford matches, enjoying the nostalgic atmosphere and sharing memories of post-match pints with friends. The outing also featured delicious refreshments, prompting Deputy Manager Nyarai Smith to remark, “That’s the best curry I’ve tasted in the UK by far.”
James Clark added: “This was a well worth early Christmas gift. Opportunities like this mean the world to our residents, and we’re incredibly grateful to Watford FC for helping us create such a special day.”
