Residents at Roseberry Court Care Home in Redcar and Cleveland recently enjoyed a unique and memorable experience after one resident’s bold 2026 wish was brought to life by the home’s team and local community.
During a recent activity session, residents were invited to share something they would like to achieve or experience in 2026, to help the care home team explore how they could support personal goals and aspirations.
Eighty-seven-year-old resident Betty Armstrong confidently shared her wish to see a male stripper for the very first time, a suggestion that quickly sparked laughter and agreement among other residents, who said it was something they would also enjoy.
Care Home Manager Rikki Hall and Wellbeing Co-ordinator Janet Meskill took the request in good humour and reached out to the local community to see if anyone could help make the residents’ wish a reality. After several days of searching and receiving offers of support, Janet created a small portfolio of potential performers. Betty was delighted to review the photos and happily chose Maximus as her preferred candidate.
Maximus arrived at Roseberry Court to entertain the ladies living at the home. Residents gathered in the lounge, with excitement building as they waited. The atmosphere was described as “electric,” with residents cheering and clapping throughout the performance.
Following the event, Betty shared her delight, saying:
“The main thing I want to quote is when is he coming back because I could have watched him all day.”
She added:
“I didn’t know where to look as it was all so exciting.”
Betty joked:
“Next time we’ll have to make sure he does longer as it seemed to be over with very quickly.”
Rikki Hall, Care Home Manager at Roseberry Court, said:
“Supporting our residents to enjoy life, have fun, and continue making memories is at the heart of what we do. This was a light-hearted and joyful way to honour Betty’s wish and bring some laughter and excitement to everyone involved.”
Roseberry Court Care Home regularly hosts activities and events designed to promote wellbeing, independence, and social connection, ensuring residents continue to enjoy fulfilling and meaningful experiences.
