Rothley care home celebrates World Bee Day with sweet festivities

HC-One’s Mountview Care Home, in Rothley, Leicestershire, marked World Bee Day on Tuesday, May 20, with a delightful celebration that brought residents and colleagues together in a bee-themed event.

The home was transformed with yellow and black decorations, reflecting the iconic colours of the beloved insect. Bee-themed adornments draped throughout the space.

World Bee Day, observed every year on May 20, honours Anton Janša, a pioneer of modern beekeeping born in 1734 in Slovenia. The day raises awareness about the critical importance of bees and other pollinators, whose habitats face growing threats from human activities like habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change.

The kitchen team at Mountview crafted several delicious treats for the occasion, including a classic Victoria sponge filled with cream and an assortment of cupcakes.

Mountview residents and colleagues enjoyed these sweet delights alongside a hot drink. To add to the fun, many were handed bee antenna headbands to wear, which brought smiles and a playful spirit to the day.

Petalynn Goodwin-Hill, HC-One’s Mountview Care Home Manager, said:

“We had a buzzing time celebrating World Bee Day! Our kitchen team outdid themselves with a delicious Victoria sponge and cupcakes, which everyone enjoyed with coffee.

“The residents and colleagues loved wearing their bee antenna headbands, and the home looked fantastic in yellow and black. It was a joyful day that brought smiles and sweetness to all!”
