Residents at HC-One’s Hambleton Grange Care Home in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, enjoyed a memorable day of music, movement, and community spirit as the renowned Silver Swans Ballet group visited the home.
The visit was inspired by residents’ wish to experience a live ballet performance. When the York-based Silver Swans expanded into Thirsk, the Hambleton Grange team was quick to invite them to the Home.
Led by Laucinda Roberts, the Silver Swans, dancers aged 55 and above, delivered a captivating performance that delighted residents and staff alike. Following the display, the dancers led a chair-based ballet session, guiding residents through traditional positions and encouraging rhythmic movement. The inclusive session allowed everyone, regardless of mobility, to participate and enjoy the experience. Residents were full of praise for the event.
The Silver Swans programme has royal approval, Her Majesty Queen Camilla herself attends Silver Swans classes, though not at the same branch as the local Thirsk group. The initiative, developed by the Royal Academy of Dance, aims to make ballet accessible and enjoyable for people over 55, promoting both physical wellbeing and social connection.
The visit reflects HC-One’s commitment to providing kind, person-centred care and creating meaningful activities that enhance the lives of its residents.
Elaine Snowden, Lifestyle Manager at HC-One’s Hambleton Grange Care Home, said:
"The Silver Swans brought so much joy to our residents. The performance and interactive session promoted wellbeing, movement, and community spirit. We are so grateful to Laucinda and her team and look forward to welcoming them back for future events, such as our popular Coffee Morning."
