Residents at HC-One Scotland’s Strathtay House Care Home in Perth, Perthshire, have been reminiscing about their childhood Christmases and sharing the festive wisdom they’ve gathered over the years.
In the run-up to the holidays, the care home invited residents to reflect on the traditions, joy and togetherness that made Christmas special for them. Their memories offered a heart-warming glimpse into festive celebrations of the past.
Resident Alma Jones fondly recalled the excitement of going to the pantomime on Boxing Day and shared her own simple advice: “Keep moving.” She added that Christmas was always about family being together.
Resident Irene Souter remembered the joy of “meeting family on Christmas Day and having a lovely day,” whilst another resident Carol Miller shared their love of “going Christmas shopping and buying new things,” adding a cheerful reminder to “keep smiling.”
Resident David Souter reflected on his father’s large family and how Christmas brought everyone together:
“Dad came from a big family, so every Christmas we used to meet up with uncles and aunts in the family room. The kids would meet the elderly in the dining room and sit down for a nice Christmas roast.”
Resident Frances Wylie shared her own treasured moments from childhood: “Being happy with family! Watching other people unwrap gifts.”
