Residents at HC-One’s Gittisham Hill House Care Home in Honiton, Devon, were all smiles as they welcomed back a very special visitor—Treacle the therapy dog—after a short time away.
Treacle, a much-loved companion at the home, had taken a break from her visits while her owner recovered from a knee replacement. After a month’s absence, her return was met with sheer joy and excitement from residents and colleagues alike. Many residents instantly recognised Treacle and were thrilled to see her again, with smiles, hugs, and plenty of tail wags shared throughout the day.
Mollie Welch, Wellbeing Coordinator at HC-One’s Gittisham Hill House Care Home, said:
“It was so lovely to see the smiles on everyone’s faces. So many of our residents remembered Treacle, and you could really see the joy her presence brought. Her visit today just shows how important animal therapy is in our home. Not having Treacle for a few weeks truly made us realise the impact she has—she brings everyone out of their shells and lifts the whole atmosphere.”
Animal therapy plays an important role in enhancing the emotional wellbeing of residents at Gittisham Hill House. Treacle’s gentle nature and affectionate spirit make her a perfect companion, providing comfort, companionship, and a sense of familiarity that resonates deeply with those she visits.
Now fully recovered, Treacle is back to doing what she does best—bringing warmth and connection to everyone she meets. The home looks forward to many more joyful visits from their furry friend in the months to come.
