Residents at Windsor Court Care Home in Wetherby enjoyed a lively trip around the globe recently – all without leaving the comfort of their armchairs – thanks to an interactive session from Musical Moments.
Joanne from Musical Moments led an afternoon packed with games, music, singing and gentle armchair exercises. Residents joined in enthusiastically, using percussion instruments, donning hats and scarves, and even meeting “Paddy the Billy Goat” as part of the fun-filled experience.
The session took residents on a musical journey to Japan, China, New York, California, Scarborough, Blackpool, Ireland and the Caribbean. From patriotic favourites to seaside singalongs, there was something for everyone, and residents had a whale of a time getting involved.
Following the session, many residents enjoyed reminiscing about their own travels, sharing stories and memories sparked by the music.
Ursula Herbert, Activities Co-ordinator at Windsor Court, said:
“The ‘Around the World’ session from Musical Moments is so inclusive and engaging. Residents can relax and join in at their own pace. It prompted a lot of reminiscing about places our residents have visited, and everyone just has so much fun. It was wonderful to see.”
The impact of the session was particularly moving for staff. Two residents were described as being “brought to life” by the experience. One proudly sang every word to Land of Hope and Glory, while another resident was laughing, playing percussion instruments and happily wearing a hat as they joined in the activities.
“It was wonderful to be there and witness the joy on their faces,” Ursula added.
Windsor Court Care Home continues to offer a varied and engaging activities programme designed to promote wellbeing, connection and enjoyment for all residents.
