HC-One’s Winters Park Care Home in Penrith, Cumbria, marked this year’s Care Home Open Week with a joyful garden celebration that brought residents, colleagues, families, and the local community together for a day of sunshine and shared memories.
The highlight of the week took place on Friday 20th June, as part of HC-One’s ‘The Big Summer Weekender’. Under bright summer skies, residents and guests enjoyed a fantastic afternoon outdoors with live music, sweet treats, and classic garden games. The home’s kitchen team laid on a delicious buffet, alongside a tempting selection of cakes, ice creams, and refreshing fruit juices.
Local singer Elizabeth Walker entertained with a set of residents’ favourite songs, adding to the festive atmosphere and prompting smiles and singalongs all round. The event brought together people of all ages to enjoy meaningful moments and celebrate the spirit of community.
Sean Moore, Senior Wellbeing Coordinator at HC-One’s Winters Park Care Home, said:
“We all had a brilliant time in the garden. The music was great, the food was delicious, and our residents said they had a fantastic afternoon.”
This celebration was part of Care Home Open Week, held nationally from Monday 16th to Sunday 22nd June, and organised by Championing Social Care. The initiative is designed to connect care homes with their local communities, offering visitors the chance to learn more about the services, facilities, and activities on offer.
Winters Park Care Home was adorned with cheerful summer-themed decorations, evoking the nostalgia of traditional British seaside holidays. The setting provided the perfect backdrop for families, friends, and neighbours to connect and discover more about life at the care home.
As well as celebrating the residents and staff, the event also aimed to showcase rewarding career opportunities in the care sector and highlight the many ways local people can get involved, including through volunteering.
Jacqueline Johnston, General Site Manager at HC-One’s Winters Park Care Home, said:
“It was a joy to welcome our community into the home and share in such a vibrant, happy occasion. Events like this remind us how special it is to be part of a supportive local network, and we’re proud to showcase the warmth, care, and sense of togetherness that defines life at Winters Park.”
