Woodthorpe Lodge Residents Step Back in Time with Visit to Loughborough MuseumResidents of HC-One’s Woodthorpe Lodge Care Home in Loughborough enjoyed a fascinating trip back in time with a visit to the Loughborough Museum in Queens Park. The outing offered a unique opportunity to explore the rich history of the local area and reminisce about days gone by.

The museum, which once housed the town’s swimming baths until 1975, sparked memories for some residents who fondly recalled taking a dip there in their youth. The group explored original machinery and artefacts, learning about Loughborough’s famous hosiery industry and the historic Luddite attacks. A highlight for many was spotting an old Auster plane suspended from the ceiling, prompting one resident to recall fitting a radio into one during his career as an engineer, while another shared memories of working in the aviation industry.

Many residents were able to connect with the museum’s collection on a personal level, reflecting on local landmarks and memories, including Ladybird books, The Brush and Hawker Sidley, Cottons hosiery, Bradgate Park, and the intriguing history of the “Nine-Day Queen” of England.

The visit was not only a journey through Loughborough’s history but also a wonderful opportunity for residents to share their own stories and memories, making for a morning filled with laughter, learning, and nostalgia.
