HC-One Celebrates Care Home Open DayResidents and relatives at HC-One’s family of care homes across the country celebrated the fifth annual Care Home Open Day on 16th June.

Care Home Open Day is a national event that gives local people the opportunity to learn more about the services at the heart of their community. This year’s theme was ‘HC-One Big Lunch’, as they partnered with the UK’s biggest annual neighbourly get-together.

Many of HC-One’s care homes celebrated with special guests, as Residents, their loved ones and neighbours welcomed local MPs, councillors, Mayors and other important dignitaries. In total, 56 homes played host to over 60 distinguished guests, helping to make the day even more special for everyone involved.

Colleagues across the UK got creative with ideas for their celebrations, and there was no shortage of wonderful and exciting activities for Residents and their visitors to enjoy together. There were a spectacular range of dress codes, from the tropics of Hawaii at Kyle Court and Elmwood, to a 1940s feel at Orchard Mews, and Fleming Court’s Wonderland theme.

Activities included tea parties, dancing, singing and carnival games, and even a visit from the local fire brigade at Augustus Court.

At Plas Cwm Carw, the day was even more memorable as Resident Tom Jones (not that one) was celebrating his 102nd birthday, and was surprised by local celeb Captain Beaney. The Orchards also marked a significant date on Care Home Open Day, as Resident Irene was joined by four generations of her family for her 91st birthday.

Newlands meanwhile took the day as an opportunity to raise money for Marie Curie UK, demonstrating their inspiring commitment to philanthropy. Jack Dormond similarly raised £135 for the Brain Tumour Charity through their sponsored walk.

While the specific activities differed from home to home, they all involved much laughter and fun (and plenty of scrumptious treats too!).

HC-One Chief Operating Officer Paula Keys said:

“Care Home Open Day embodies our ethos at HC-One, as our relationship with the local communities we serve is such an integral part of the work that we do.

“We strive to be the first-choice provider for those looking for the kindest care and the employer for choice for the best, most professional and kindest staff, and we are so pleased to be able to demonstrate this to our visitors during Care Home Open Day.

“We hope that everyone enjoyed their visit, and we’re delighted our neighbours had the opportunity to see first-hand how HC-One delivers the kindest care.”

All in all, this year’s Care Home Open Day was a fantastic success. Residents from all over the country had a wonderful time celebrating with friends both old and new, and we hope that this is the start of many brand new relationships. We are already looking forward now to next year’s Care Home Open Day, which hopefully will be even bigger and even better than this one!
