HC-One shortlisted for an outstanding eleven awardsEleven HC-One Colleagues and care homes across the North East, North West and South West of England, Memory Care Services Team, Quality of Life Team, People Development and Engagement Team as well as Operational Area Support Team have been shortlisted as finalists by the judging panel at the National Care Awards, National Dementia Care Awards, Great British Care Awards, The Northern Echo County Durham Together Awards and the Care Heroes Awards 2020.
 
The eleven finalists were carefully chosen in recognition of their hard work, kind care shown to Residents, Relatives and Colleagues as well as the dedication and passion they show day-to-day to ensure the people they support receive the best quality care.
 
HC-One’s finalists for the National Care Awards 2020 are;
 
·       Professor Graham Stokes, Director of Memory Care Services at HC-One, finalist in the Lifetime Achievement in Care Award Category.
 
Graham is a clinical psychologist with over 30 years of experience in dementia care. He is one of the most influential people working in dementia in the UK and has been instrumental in developing and shaping the concept of person-centred care.
 
·       Jacqueline Orrells, Area Director at HC-One, finalist in the Care Operations/Area Manager Award Category.
 
Jacqueline supports and manages 14 separate care homes in Wales. They have become one large family and team under her strong leadership so that everyone pulls together to help each other. Jacqueline’s practice enhances the quality of service provision by mentoring the staff in the homes in Wales. She is a role model to many of her Colleagues and provides a person-centred approach to all of the Residents.
 
·       Alison Innes-Farquhar, Director of People Development and Engagement at HC-One (prior to retirement in June 2020), finalist in the Care Champion Award Category.
 
Alison has had a successful career spanning 30 years in health and social care, nine of which were spent at HC-One. Alison’s passion for people, leadership and engagement has been demonstrated on numerous occasions throughout her career. She has supported and inspired thousands of people across the company with her drive and ambition to ensure that Residents receive the best and highest quality of care and Colleagues experience rewarding careers to reach their full potential.
 
 
 
 
·       Jack Dormand Care Home, finalist in The Dignity and Respect Care Home of the Year Award Category.
 
Jack Dormand located in a former mining community in County Durham, provides nursing and residential care to 43 Residents and is rated ‘Outstanding’ by CQC. No matter how complex the care need, the focus is always on providing the highest levels of dignity and respect and all possible measures are taken to enable Residents to live fulfilling lives.
 
·       The Wellbeing Team at Jack Dormand Care Home, finalist in The Care Team Award Category.
 
Jack Dormand’s Wellbeing Team consists of four Colleagues, Joe, Karen, Danielle and Michelle who all hold a vast array of skills. They are a worthy finalist of this award as they are committed to improving the lives of their Residents and others in their local community of Horden.
 
·       Julie Loscombe at Defoe Court Care Home, finalist in the Care Housekeeper Award Category.
 
Julie is the Senior Housekeeper at Defoe Court and her daily duties include the cleaning of the home, stock management and ordering of all cleaning products. She also acts as the infection control lead in the home which has come to the fore with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
The National Care Awards 2020 marks 22 years of celebrating the very best people working in the care sector and those who go above and beyond to provide consistent exceptional care. The National Care Awards ceremony will be taking place virtually this year on Wednesday 25th November 2020, when the winners will be announced.
 
HC-One’s finalist in the National Dementia Care Awards 2020 is;
 
·       Julie Merritt at Falstone Court Care Home, finalist in the Best Dementia Care Manager Award Category.
 
As Deputy Manager, Julie is an inspirational leader who promotes an inclusive, can-do culture that she believes in and passionately implements that has contributed heavily to the home’s ‘Outstanding’ CQC rating.
 
The Dementia Care Awards recognise people’s success and work in the significant field of dementia care. These awards reward the very best people who work in this area of expertise, as well as acknowledge their hard work and innovation in providing outstanding care to those living with dementia. The Dementia Care Awards ceremony will be taking place virtually this year on Thursday 12th November 2020, when the winners will be announced.
 
HC-One’s finalist and winner in the Care Heroes Awards 2020 is:
 
·       Roseland Court Care Home, winner in the Care Home Hero (Team) Award Category.
 
Roseland Court Care Home have pulled together as a team to ensure the safety of their Residents and support each other’s wellbeing during a time of crisis, which the team have demonstrated during the pandemic. The team have shown enormous dedication, bravery and self-sacrifice to ensure Residents are cared for and shielded, often leaving their own families to move into the care home. They have provided amazing care during an emotional and challenging time to Colleagues, Residents and their loved ones.
 
The Care Heroes Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of health and social care teams during the coronavirus pandemic, recognising the dedication and bravery of an often unsung sector. 

On Thursday 5th November 2020, it was announced that Roseland Court Care Home had been chosen as the winner of this award. The judges said the team were true heroes of the pandemic and had worked with compassion and dedication to address the challenging loss of so many Residents from COVID-19. The judges felt it was exceptional to offer that COVID specific service at such potentially high personal risk and management in a very unknown environment.
 
HC-One’s finalists in the Great British Care Awards 2020 is:
 
·       Robi Roccella, Head of Quality of Life at HC-One, finalist in The Outstanding Contribution to Social Care Award Category.
 
Robi has brought many HC-One wellbeing and dementia-friendly initiatives to life, including HC-One’s dementia support programme, Harmony, and overseen the implementation of challenging and innovative projects designed to improve people’s quality of life, whilst often managing culture change on a large scale. Robi has galvanised the Colleagues across HC-One homes and seen thousands of Residents engaging in and benefitting from structured wellbeing activities.

·       Richmond House Care Home, finalist in The Care Team Award Category.

Richmond House Care Home’s Team have demonstrated excellent communication skills, along with a shared vision and goals to ensure commitment to dignity, respect and person-centred care is achieved for Residents living in their care home. Each member of the team shows respect for each other and contributes their own skill strengths which are recognised by other members of the team. The home is led by Home Manager, Lorraine Scholey who is respected by her team and takes personal responsibility for their tasks.
 
The Great British Care Awards are a series of regional events held throughout the UK in celebration of the excellence of those working in the care sector. The awards pay tribute to individuals in the care sector who have shown outstanding excellence within their area of work. The Great British Care Awards Gala Evening for The Outstanding Contribution to Social Care Award Category is due to take place on Thursday 6th May 2021, at the Grand Hotel Gosforth Park, Newcastle, where the winner of the award will be announced. The Great British Care Awards Gala Evening for The Care Home Team Award Category is due to take place on Saturday 24th April 2021 at The Kimpton Clock Hotel, Manchester, where the winner of the award will be announced.
 
HC-One’s finalist in The Northern Echo County Durham Together Awards 2020 is:
 

·       The Care Team at Melbury Court Care Home, finalist in the Carer of the Year Category.

 
The Care Team at Melbury Court Care Home has played a vital role in helping others and have all been key workers, caring for others during the coronavirus. They have all stepped up, taking on new caring responsibilities and going above and beyond the requirements of their roles during this challenging time to provide support to those who need it most.
 
The Northern Echo County Durham Together Awards 2020 is a new award scheme that was launched this year to recognise those who have gone above and beyond during the coronavirus pandemic. They celebrate those who have played a key role in supporting their communities in the county over the last few months and award the very best examples of excellence in the County Durham community. The awards will take place virtually on Thursday 10th December 2020, when the winners of the awards will be announced.
