Success for HC-One Colleagues at the Wales Great British Care Awards 2022HC-One is celebrating its Colleagues’ success at the Wales Great British Care Awards last week, which saw two HC-One Colleagues crowned as winners, and a further Colleague receive Highly Commended recognition.

The Great British Care Awards consist of 23 inclusive award categories and are a series of regional events taking place throughout the UK. The awards celebrate excellence across the care sector and paying tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding dedication within their area of work.

HC-One’s winners at the Wales Great British Care Awards 2022 are:

Katherine Shorney, Home Administrator at Church View Care Home, winner of The Ancillary Worker Award Category

Katherine has worked in her role at Church View for 15 years, and over the years she has become well-known for going above and beyond to help others around her. Katherine is known as the ‘beating heart’ of the care home. She has outstanding communication skills, organises her time well and shows dedication to her job. She is often everyone’s go to person if anyone has any work-related queries. Katherine is greatly respected by everyone. She’ll often take the time out of her busy schedule to listen to stories Residents want to share with her, as she believes it’s important to treat Residents with a person-centred care approach.

• Alison Hamer, Deputy Home Manager at Trafalgar Park Care Home, winner of The Dementia Carer Award Category

Alison has worked in the care industry for over 33 years and started working at Trafalgar Park Care Home as a Senior Care Assistant in May 2005. She has progressed in her career to now become Deputy Home Manager. Alison is a compassionate person who puts her Residents at the heart of her role. She ensures that every day is a good day for them, with an ethos for making sure she has time to listen and ‘just be there’ for her Residents.
Alison is well-respected, supportive and always completes her tasks. Alison is thorough in completing risk assessments and in ensuring that the Residents’ care plans are completed in collaboration with the Residents and are always kept up to date. This process is at the heart of providing person centred care and promotes the key value of getting to know all Residents and be able to identify their support and care needs.

HC-One’s Highly Commended Colleague is:

• Mary Baber, Care Assistant at Trafalgar Park Care Home, Highly Commended in The Dementia Carer Award Category

Mary has worked at Trafalgar Park since October 1999 as a Care Assistant.

Mary is a kind, wonderful person who takes her role seriously and creates a fulfilling life for her Residents. Mary always puts the welfare of the Residents first and ensures that she attends Resident meetings held at the home, to gather feedback and suggest ways that activities or care can be further enhanced. Mary is also very confident and knowledgeable about all the Residents’ care needs, which are meticulously recorded in the care plans. When supporting Residents living with dementia, she has a strong understanding of what individual triggers might lead to a Resident being agitated and she knows what measures to put in place to calm Residents.

Geoff Edwards, Managing Director at HC-One, stated:

“Congratulations to Katherine, Alison and Mary on their achievements at the Wales Regional Great British Care Awards 2022. This is a fantastic achievement, and we are so proud of them.

“Being selected as winners at these prestigious awards is a huge achievement. It is a testament to the dedication and commitment shown by our Colleagues, even in the most challenging of times. They have gone above and beyond to provide the kindest care to Residents living in our care homes, as we strive to be the first-choice care provider in each of the communities that we serve.”
