Three HC-One Colleagues shortlisted for awards at the National Dementia Care Awards 2022Three HC-One Colleagues across the UK have been shortlisted as finalists by the judging panel at the National Dementia Care Awards 2022.

The prestigious National Dementia Care Awards will take place for the twelfth year and are back as a live event on Thursday 29th September 2022 within the grounds of Winchester Cathedral. The eight award categories celebrate, reward, and recognise the importance of the best people working in the field of dementia care. Winners will be announced at the awards presentation lunch and highlight the excellence of individuals working in all parts of the sector who continue to work tirelessly and consistently to provide outstanding care to those living with dementia and their loved ones.

HC-One’s finalists for the National Dementia Care Awards 2022 are:

•    Sean Moore, Resident Liaison Officer at Summerhill Care Home, finalist in the Best Activity Lifestyle Lead Award Category
Sean works closely with Residents who are living with dementia, and he has made an exceptional contribution to their quality of life, health and happiness through the activities he facilitates.
As a natural entertainer and a positive person, Sean is very inclusive in his approach. His energy and enthusiasm naturally engage Residents and makes them want to get involved in whatever he’s putting on.
Sean makes an exceptional contribution to the wellbeing of our Residents, through working with technology, contacting people local to offer support and keeping a smile on everyone’s face. He is an amazing colleague who everyday amazes and inspires his Colleagues and Residents.

•    Lawra Baumane, Quality of Life Specialist at HC-One, finalist in the Best Dementia Care Inspiring Leader Award Category

Lawra has a true passion for excellence and making a difference to the lives of Residents that we support. Her caring nature towards People and her ideas and initiatives to improve the wellbeing and lives of Residents became prominent amongst HC-One Colleagues and homes.
Lawra assisted with the implementation of a comprehensive wellbeing pilot to assess the effectiveness of the new HC-One wellbeing programme. Proving Lawra’s willingness to listen to those around her, this pilot incorporated a number of ideas that had come from Colleagues, including the ‘Stop the Clock’. This initiative encourages Colleagues across homes and across different departments to take time out of their day, outside the times where mealtimes and personal care are delivered, to engage Residents in meaningful activities, promoting whole-home approach and good quality of life!
Whilst the pandemic has posed many challenges for Colleagues to continue safely planning and organising activities within HC-One homes, Lawra has worked hard to provide alternative and innovative ideas to support our Colleagues to continue to enhance the quality of life for our Residents.

•    Jill Carr, General Site Manager at Tenlands and Lothian House Care Home, finalist in the Best Dementia Care Manager Award Category

As General Site Manager for two services, Jill’s role is that of a Registered Manager, taken overall responsibility for the running of the services, managing and leading the teams to perform to the best of their ability, whilst encouraging growth and development, managing budgets and ensuring that the services are compliant with the external and internal regulators.

The Care Managers of her homes conduct the day-to-day tasks, whilst Jill oversees the Quality Assurance, HR tasks, Marketing and Occupancy growth, Recruitment, Colleague development and support and obtain feedback from Residents and Relatives on their thoughts and feelings about the service.
Jill feels an important part of her role is the development of Colleagues, by ensuring, thorough coaching, leading by example and encouraging Colleagues to identify their potential, the outcome will be a team of strong, passionate, confident and kind leaders.

Graham Stokes, Director of Dementia Care at HC-One, commented:

“I am delighted that we have three finalists that have been shortlisted as finalists at the National Dementia Care Awards 2022. “At HC-One we are dedicated to achieving our aim of being the care provider of choice for those looking for the very best care and support, and employer of choice for the best, most professional, and kindest care staff in the communities in which we are proud to serve.”
