100th birthday celebrations at Chelmsford care homeIt was a special day at HC-One’s Admirals Reach care home in Chelmsford, Essex as Resident, Arthur Cornell celebrated his 100th birthday. 

Born in Wimbish, near Thaxtead on 19th August 1921, Arthur grew up and worked on a farm for two years before joining the Territorial Army when he was just sixteen, he went on to serve in the 5th Essex Regiment for five years and fought in the Middle East and Belgium. 

When he demobilised, Arthur become the honorary president of the Melbourne Park Allotment Association and used to regularly compete in local horticultural shows with his wife. After sixty-nine years, Arthur gave up his allotment plot in 2016 but was still a regular visitor to the site and an active member of the community for many years after. 

Arthur married his beloved wife, Ada in 1954 and was blessed with one daughter, Pamela Jean and one grandson, Daniel. 

To celebrate his milestone birthday, Arthur enjoyed visits throughout the day from his friends and family followed by a special card and gifts from everyone at Admirals Reach presented by Home Manager, Lal.
