A fun start to May at Kirkwood Court care homeResidents at Kirkwood Court, residential and residential dementia care home in Kenton, Newcastle Upon Tyne, have had a fun start to the month of May with bingo and royal celebrations.

Recently, Residents have received a RITA computer which has been great for everyone. Many enjoy playing the games and enjoy listening to music and watching films. 

Using the RITA computer for bingo has been great and lots of Residents have had fun playing and enjoying the games with one another. 

The computer has helped those Residents who may struggle with communication, as they are able to communicate through games and activities, giving them more independence. 

Merle, one of the Residents, said, “What an amazing invention, you can do so many things on the device.”

Giles, another Resident, added, “Its good. I enjoy playing the music game the best. I used to play the guitar and I can now play it on the computer.”

Angela Douglass, Care Home Manager, remarked, “It’s a brilliant device! it has really helped many of our Residents especially those who struggle with communication.”

Then to celebrate the Kings Coronation, Residents dressed up in red, white and blue and enjoyed wearing Union Jack themed headbands and waistcoats.

There was a fantastic entertainer, Sharon, who came long to perform to the Residents. They enjoyed the music and waving their flags along to the music. 

Residents enjoyed some delicious party food and drinks and they loved themed coronation cupcakes.

Tom, one of the Residents, said, “It was an amazing day. I loved seeing everyone dressed up and enjoying themselves.”
