On Wednesday 22nd June, Residents at
Market Lavington residential, nursing and nursing dementia care home, in Devizes enjoyed a trip out for some lunch and to enjoy a canal view in the sunshine.
The Black Horse, which is a pub on the outskirts of Devizes, was chosen for its location as it sits right next to the Kennet & Avon Canal, a popular waterways network used by owners of houseboats.
Dennis Scullard, Angela Wakeley, Gordon Grist, Suzie Hilton and Frank Anderson enjoyed sitting next to the canal watching the wildlife and all the activities taking place on the busy waterway.
Riaz Ali, Wellbeing Coordinator, said, “I don’t know if there are specific naming conventions when it comes to naming boats, but a boat passed by that was called ‘Lettuce Bee Lovers’ which certainly made the Residents chuckle! Another boat that was moored on the opposite bank was simply called ‘Dust’, which again proved to be an amusing topic of conversation for the Residents!”
All enjoyed sipping on orange juices, zero-alcohol shandy, or tea and coffee, served by the very kind and accommodating staff at The Black Horse, and it all made for a perfect afternoon outing!
Everyone enjoyed watching the houseboats and simply being next to a large expanse of water, which is always somehow calming and peaceful!
Suzie said, “I enjoyed it so much. And the white roses all along the fence were so pretty. I loved the houseboats too and would like a picture of them!”
Frank added, “I wouldn’t mind living on a houseboat, I think they’re great.”
Dennis joked, “I think I’d like to go for a swim!”
Riaz continued, “I’d like to thank the staff at the Black Horse for changing the seating and bringing out more parasols for us, they were very friendly and helpful!”
“Also, it was a delightful afternoon and it’s a privilege to be able to support Residents on trips like this and to see them relax and enjoy themselves in such a lovely location.”
