A good old sing along at Hartlepool care homeResidents at Sheraton Court care home in Hartlepool, were keen to practice their singing and thought joining a local choir would be the perfect opportunity to do that.

Jean, the receptionist had a conversation with one of her friends and was told about ‘Happy Together’ a dementia friendly choir based about just up the road in Blackhall. Some of the Residents are very familiar of the area as they either grew up there or spent time as a youth in the village.

The Residents of the 80-bed residential and residential dementia care home went along to the choir club, it was a wet and gloomy day, so all the singing was going to brighten up their day.

Once the Residents were inside, they didn’t stop singing. Elsie also had a little boogie. There were some lovely refreshments on offer, each of the Residents enjoyed a cup of tea and a slice of cake.

Everyone had a lovely time and were made to feel really welcome; they even asked the Residents to come back for future events. The choir have arranged to come along to Sheraton Court so they can perform to fellow Residents and Colleague.

Carole Thomson, Care Home Manager, remarked, “This choir is a wonderful, fully accessible weekly event put together specifically for people with a dementia. A fabulous time for all as the proven benefits from singing enhances the quality of life for Residents.”
