Activities from Roxburgh House from boats to dollsResidents at Roxburgh House care home, in Cradley Heath, love taking part in activities. Today they talk about two of their Residents who find comfort in two very different things and of course, the build up to Christmas.

Dorothy May Hughes, who lives at Roxburgh House, loves her empathy baby named ‘Tommy’, pictured right. She likes to hold, feed and talking to him. Everyone often says how caring Dorothy is and other Residents like to see how happy he makes her.

Resident Monica Hart, known as “Mona” around Roxburgh, always made paper boats for her children when they were younger, she still enjoys making them now and even makes them for other Residents and Colleagues at the home, see Mona pictured left. Mona said, “I used to make the boats every day when I sat in the park.”

Another Resident, Irene Prosser, remembers Mona making the boats some years ago and likes her boat after seeing Mona make them over the years. Another Resident, Maureen, commented on, “How nice,” they were.

Home Manager, Linda Wilkes, said, “Sometimes Tommy has to visit the laundry for a quick bath but we find the empathy dolls very comforting for Residents and love how happy he makes Residents.”

“I love how Residents’ talents can be shared among everyone and admired. The paper boats are so clever.”

Also this week, on Christmas Eve Residents were joining in with ringing the bells for Santa. Colleagues and Residents made some jingle bells and rang them to guide Santa on his way. Residents Iris Woodward and Tony Crumpton joined in with singing, “Jingle bells” and “Ho Ho Ho!”

Linda said, “What a lovely bit of Christmas fun!”
