A care home in Chelmsford welcomed members of the local community, prospective residents and their families to a special Open Day event to celebrate the opening of its brand-new 30-bedded residential dementia community.
Admirals Reach Care Home opened its doors on Monday 2nd March 2026, marking the official launch of its newly refurbished dementia community, named Drake, in keeping with the home’s nautical theme inspired by famous Admirals. The event was attended by The Mayor of Chelmsford, Jannetta Sosin, and her Mayoress, Chris Shaw, who showed their support for the home and its commitment to high-quality dementia care.
Guests enjoyed guided tours of the home’s exceptional facilities, met the dedicated care team and learned more about what makes Admirals Reach a standout choice for care in Essex. A complimentary buffet lunch was provided, giving visitors the opportunity to relax and speak with staff in an informal setting.
Admirals Reach is a 158-bedded residential, nursing, residential dementia and nursing dementia care home, combining state-of-the-art facilities with excellence in personalised care to ensure residents enjoy the best possible quality of life. The home has been thoughtfully designed to promote independence, comfort and dignity, with residents’ wellbeing and happiness at the heart of everything it does.
As part of a wider refurbishment programme, the Drake community has been newly refurbished and redecorated, offering a modern and enhanced living environment with excellent indoor and outdoor spaces. The new community provides specialist residential dementia care, with residents benefiting from a comprehensive wellbeing programme, access to a minibus for outings and excursions, and a bookable private dining service for special occasions with loved ones.
The refurbishment was led by Senior Interior Designer Dessy Spencer, who worked closely with residents and relatives to gather feedback, ideas and inspiration. Carefully selected colour schemes and fabrics create a warm, welcoming environment, incorporating personal touches to ensure the home truly feels like a home from home.
Visitors also had the opportunity to speak with Dementia Care Manager Amy Pepper, who explained the home’s dementia-friendly design features and its approach to personalised dementia care.
Lal Mangalam, General Manager at Admirals Reach Care Home, said:
“We are incredibly proud to have officially opened our new Drake community and to have shared this milestone with our local community, including the Mayor and Mayoress of Chelmsford. Every detail has been carefully considered to ensure residents feel safe, supported and truly at home. The Open Day was a wonderful opportunity for people to see first-hand the high standard of care and the warm, welcoming environment we offer at Admirals Reach.”
