April Park care home Residents enjoy April activitiesResidents at HC-One’s 54-bed April Park care home in Eckington, near Sheffield, have been enjoying a bus month of April with a range of fun and exciting activities.

On Friday 21 April Residents and Colleagues put the kettle on and raised a cup to National Tea Day, sampling a range of delicious teas. Residents enjoyed sampling the different available flavours, comparing them with their usual preferred tea.

Although some of the teas were judged to be better than others, not all the Residents were persuaded to change from their usual brew - one commenting “you can’t beat Yorkshire tea!”

Just a few days later it was time for another celebration, as Residents and Colleagues marked St George’s Day with a traditional English afternoon tea surrounded by flags and bunting.

On offer were scones with jam and clotted cream, tea and coffee, which Residents all enjoyed as they chatted together.  A St George quiz and some traditional English music rounded off the event.

Another April afternoon was spent with Residents working on arts and crafts to help decorate the care home ahead of its upcoming open day. The glitter, glue and coloured cardboard came out as Residents expressed their creative sides making masks and other items.

April Park care home offers a wide range of different activities for Residents to encourage an atmosphere of fun and inclusion. One typical recent activity was a board game session as Residents opted to play Monopoly together.

Lisa Dootson, Care Home Manager, said: “I am so pleased that our Residents have enjoyed their recent activities, it is wonderful seeing them spending time together. We aim for a family atmosphere here at April Park and these kinds of communal sessions only help develop that.”
