BT Care Home Companion Scheme at Kirkwood CourtResidents at Kirkwood Court near Newcastle-upon-Tyne which offers residential and residential memory care, for those living with dementia, enjoyed talking to the BT volunteers from the BT Care Home Companion Scheme which aims to combat loneliness in care homes.

A few Residents have signed up to this programme and one of the Residents called George loves the BT calls.

The home featured in the Care Home magazine and on Smiley Movement news talking about the benefits of the scheme.

The amazing Bev from BT loves talking to George, and on one of his calls he mentioned his birthday, therefore, Bev delivered a birthday present for George which was full of things he likes; chocolate, sweets and 'The Magnificent Seven'. George was overwhelmed with their kindness.

George said, “It is a brilliant idea, I look forward to my call every week, I love talking to the volunteers".

For 'World Kindness Day' the staff at BT all wrote a card to each member of staff to say thank you for all the hard work they have done, and all staff members received a bar of chocolate.

One of the Residents said, " I love talking to the volunteers, its lovely to think they take their time out of their day to talk to me".

Wellbeing Colleague Lauren, remarked, "We can see the benefits and positive impact the BT Care Home Companion calls are having on our Residents”.
