Button Day for Eastbourne care home ResidentsFor Button Day at Elstree care home, in East Sussex, they discussed the history of buttons and shared some memories.

“We created different button pictures. The Residents guessed how many buttons were in the jar and the winner received a packet of chocolate buttons. I hid buttons around Elstree and told Colleagues that if they find them, they win a packet of chocolate buttons,” explained Susan Faulkner, Wellbeing Coordinator.

Colleagues also used the buttons to make sequences for some short-term memory activities.

Residents Mick, June, Reg, David, Kath, Mary, John and June W enjoyed creating button pictures in their own style and had some great ideas for Button Day,

“I’ve never heard of Button Day, the history behind it is amazing!” One had commented.

Another Resident added, “The coloured buttons are striking on the picture.”

Home Manager, Yolanda De Castro, remarked, “It’s very clever using these objects to create mind, body and soul activities and I loved the whole idea, everyone else seemed to as well!”
