Cedar House Care Home Celebrates Black History Month with a Vibrant Notting Hill Carnival-Inspired EResidents and team members at HC-One’s Cedar House Care Home in Uxbridge, Middlesex, brought the spirit of London’s world-famous Notting Hill Carnival to their own home in celebration of Black History Month.

Several residents at Cedar House previously lived in the Notting Hill area, making the event especially meaningful. To honour both their memories and the cultural significance of the Carnival, the home hosted a day filled with music, dance, and Caribbean-inspired cuisine.

The celebrations featured a lively playlist of reggae classics, with many residents moving to the rhythm of Bob Marley’s timeless hits. Themed decorations and handmade crafts set the scene, as residents spent the afternoon creating vibrant African masks to mark the occasion.

A highlight of the day was a delicious themed lunch, featuring traditional Afro-Caribbean dishes such as jerk chicken, rice and peas, and a hearty African stew.

Activities Coordinator Zonya Sullivan, who organised the event, shared:

“It was wonderful to see so many smiles and to hear our residents reminiscing about their days in Notting Hill. Several of our residents are big fans of Bob Marley, and one even said it was a shame her son couldn’t join us, she was sure he would have shown us his limbo dancing skills! I thoroughly enjoyed the day myself, especially as I also come from the Notting Hill area. It felt like bringing a piece of home to Cedar House.”

The event was a joyful tribute to Black History Month and a celebration of the vibrant culture and community that the Notting Hill Carnival represents. It offered residents the chance to reconnect with fond memories while embracing the rhythms, flavours, and colours of Afro-Caribbean heritage.
